Flexibility Training Programs

Flexibility is a key component to staying healthy and fit

When it's time to hit the gym, most people head to a treadmill or the weight room. They know that regular cardio exercise and muscle strengthening are keys to good health, but there is a third, often overlooked component to fitness.

According to the American Council on Exercise, a complete, safe and effective fitness program must include aerobic exercise, muscle conditioning and flexibility exercise.

Flexibility is an important, yet often neglected component of fitness. Without adequate flexibility, the easy performance of everyday and recreational activities would be impossible, the council says.

Why Should You Stretch?

  • You'll improve your performance and reduce your risk of injury during ADL's (activities of daily living)
  • You'll reduce muscle soreness and improve your posture

(look 10 lbs thinner with proper posture!)

  • You'll help reduce lower back pain
  • You'll increase blood and nutrients to the tissues
  • You'll improve your coordination
  • You'll enjoy exercise more and help reduce stress
 PT Hint:
Contray to popular belief, you should stretch AFTER exercise, not before!
